MENOPAUSE

 

 

Please, don’t tell me that menopause is natural and that we need to be accepting of it!

 

I’ve been there. I would not recommend it to my worst enemy - but could not avoid it.

 

Just when you thought you’d overcome the everything that life could throw at you, along comes menopause.

 

The internet can write about symptoms such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, sleep disturbance, brain fog, night sweats, hormonal imbalances and depression, but it’s not until you start to experience these symptoms yourself that you fully appreciate the intensity of the changes - and it can be quite horrible, both for yourself and also for your partner who might become an unwitting target. 

 

Many is the time I felt like opening up the Star Trek Tricorder to say “Beam me up Scotty, get me out of here” - just wish I had one!

 

Many is the time I felt like a little bit of extra aggression might be warranted.

 

And even then, I’m lucky in that not only did I know what was going on, I knew how to reduce the symptoms quickly and naturally.   

 

I’m told that some women sail through menopause - lucky them! 

 

For others, the intensity of changing from an oestrogen dominant human to an oestrogen-deficient spitting alien on the rampage can be quite unbearable.

 

And we also have pre-menopause (peri-menopause) and post-menopause years to get through as well. 

 

Yes, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the symptoms of menopause don’t stop just because the periods do. And both peri and post menopause bring with them their own challenges.

 

The whole process from peri through to post menopause can bring unwelcome changes to body shape, weight gain, mood swings, UTIs, insomnia et al. Post menopause can also increase the risk of osteoporosis.  And at all stages, there are also phantom periods where you have the joy of feeling everything that a period should feel like but without the bleeding. Hurrah!

 

As a ”fully experienced” post-menopausee and practitioner, I know what you are going through.
